Job Title: IT Business Analyst (Contract Position)
Location: Remote with occasional onsite requirements in Austin, TX
Duration: November 2024 – September 30, 2025 (Potential extension into FY26)
Pay Rate: $35-40/hour
Job Overview
This IT Business Analyst role will support the IT department by defining, analyzing, and optimizing business and technical requirements. The role includes coordinating with stakeholders, developing requirements for IT projects, and troubleshooting to enhance system functionalities. This position is remote but requires the candidate to be in Austin for initial training and occasional in-person meetings.
Key Responsibilities
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with decision-makers, system owners, and end users to gather and document business, technical, and functional requirements.
- Requirements Documentation: Conduct meetings to document specifications, business processes, and propose IT solutions.
- Analysis and Modeling: Develop models, use cases, process flows, and specifications to guide developers, designers, and vendors.
- Statements of Work: Draft detailed statements of work for software enhancements.
- Reporting and Recommendations: Provide reports and recommendations for improving current systems or addressing trouble areas.
- Testing and End-User Support: Oversee end-user reviews, system tests, and training sessions to ensure successful implementations.
- SQL Querying: Use SQL for problem-solving, generating reports, and performing data analysis.
- Ticketing and Troubleshooting: Respond to customer service requests, troubleshoot, and escalate issues as necessary.
- Ordinance Administration Support: Perform administrative and technical tasks associated with ordinance management.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 4 years in business analysis or related IT role.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio, and collaboration software.
- Change Management: 4 years’ experience with change management methodologies and ticketing systems.
- Documentation Skills: Proficient in creating documentation artifacts to explain current and proposed system changes.
- Database Knowledge: Understanding of relational databases and intermediate SQL querying skills.
- Analytical Writing: Capable of writing detailed descriptions of user needs, program functions, and procedural steps.
Preferred Skills (Optional)
- Customer Service: Demonstrated customer-friendly approach.
- Project Management Tools: 2+ years with Jira or similar tools for requirement management.
- Agile Development Knowledge: Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
- API Experience: Experience documenting requirements for APIs, particularly for JavaScript, Python, and SQL-based applications.
- Business Intelligence Tools: Knowledge of Tableau or similar BI platforms.
Term of Service
- Start Date: November 2024
- End Date: September 30, 2025 (Possible extension)
Work Hours and Location
- Hours: Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm (flexible after initial training)
- Location: Remote, with occasional onsite meetings in central Austin
(Note: Onsite presence required for the first two weeks of training)
