Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and lead the Research & Development (R&D) team, driving innovation to align with company goals and ensuring new product development meets market needs while maintaining a competitive edge.
- Provide regular updates to the CEO and executive team, delivering insights on R&D progress, industry trends, and emerging market opportunities through reports and presentations.
- Stay at the forefront of coatings industry advancements, continuously monitoring new technologies and market developments through research, trade shows, and professional associations.
- Establish and refine testing protocols for both existing and new products, ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.
- Offer strategic guidance and expertise for budget planning and long-term growth initiatives, including pricing strategies and key business recommendations.
- Lead, mentor, and develop R&D staff, fostering a culture of high performance, continuous learning, and professional growth. Conduct objective performance assessments.
- Approve R&D formulations, optimizing material usage and manufacturing processes to enhance cost efficiency.
- Work closely with Compliance and Quality teams to ensure adherence to federal, state, and industry regulations.
- Proactively identify and explore new coatings products and technologies with strong market potential.
- Manage the R&D department’s budget, ensuring financial efficiency in research operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer Science, or Coatings Technology (preferred).
- At least 10 years of experience in polymer and coatings research, with a minimum of 7 years in formulation-focused roles demonstrating career progression.
- Expertise in solvent-borne, water-borne, polysiloxane, and urethane chemistries.
- Strong knowledge of industrial coatings application and troubleshooting.
- Experience with spectral analysis, data interpretation, and advanced analytical chemistry techniques.
